"The Middle Ages saw how a God-centered thinking made philosophy a mere handmaid of religion. While to this day, many thinkers still claim that philosophy should merely subserve religion, we believe that philosophy should be an independent science. There is a clear gap between philosophy and religion; each is sovereign in its own field. Religion is based on faith; philosophy on reason. Philosophy should not be used to rationalize the "mysteries" of religion, if religion as such involves divine revelation. On the other hand, religion should not be asked by philosophy to explain what is inaccessible to the mind. We contend that the scope of philosophy begins and ends in what the human intellect can fathom. Beyond that is the domain of religion or theology. We may speak of a continuity but never of subservience; the domains are clear and well-defined."
